Last Friday, the biggest patent case in decades – Samsung and Apple Patent issue was over with Apple in the upper hand.  In a massive US court victory Apple won more than $1billion over Samsung.
Samsung, the South Korean electronics firm counterclaims against the US tech giant Apple, which claimed its flagship iPhone and iPad had been copied. Samsung failed to claim the victory and the decision appeared to be a crushing victory for Apple.

Soon after the court decision, straight from Seoul, Samsung released a statement by saying:

"We will move immediately to file post-verdict motions to overturn this decision in this court and if we are not successful, we will appeal this decision to the Court of Appeals,"

This statement says a lot, and it shows that the fight doesn’t end after the court decision, and looks like, not a bright day for Apple yet.  Samsung will try to tone down the decision as much as possible.

The decision affects Samsung patents on a range of their products including its popular Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy 10 tablet devices. However, other device like Samsung Galaxy III S which is just recently released is not affected by the verdict but still subject for a separate litigation.

Survey shows that Samsung shipped 50.2 million smartphones globally from April-June period, while Apple sold only 6 million iPhones, which lead to a study that Samsung held 32.6% of the market and only 16.9% held by Apple.

Up to this day, it is still unclear whether Samsung will continue to use the technology and pay Apple for the damage or pull out their devices in the market and do the redesigning.  It is definitely a crucial moment for the company.   After the verdict, the court banned sales Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPad 2, as well as Samsung’ Galaxy S and Galaxy S II in South Korea.

It is definitely a hard battle between the two tech giants. Patent issue is very popular among companies, especially those who offer the same products. In the case of Samsung, there is no final date, when they will file the post-verdict, but it is expected to be a huge technology issue soon to scattered over the internet and it is something we should be looking forward.
